Myself Again 05:15
The morning arrives The realisation still inside Will I ever get back home? Every feather floats alone Day after day The clock is ticking and winding away Where are you tonight? I can still hear the chimes Oh why oh why What I’ve got in the end Is a life to try and mend All I need is a chance to be myself again What I’ve got in the end Is a life to try and mend And all I need is to be myself again I cry to the sound Of a place I should be around Oh that endless rage inside of me Will I ever rest in peace? You all seem so blind Yet the truth hangs between your eyes Please help me come through And I’ll come back to you I’m just a feather that floats all alone I am scared Falling unknown disappear like a breath in the air

Driving anywhere, just anywhere to get there Asleep at the wheel with one eye wide awake The moon’s well into its dream As I ride inside a fuelled blood stream Anywhere at anytime it thrives on Filling my empty side Unable to rest Unwilling to stay behind Insisting you take it everywhere Like a cancerous cry I adore you. It’s you that I idolize I’ll live and die for you As we strive for the morning’s high Obsession never sleeps You wake with it caressing your cheek Just how can you ignore The one thing you would die for? You’re my enemy, my saviour And my ever ruling dictator That summons my thoughts towards My infatuation But a fatal fate awaits the greedy hand Who’s bullied alone night and day By their own demands I adore you. It’s you that I idolize I’ll live and die for you And kill for the evening’s high But it will never be the happiness you once had

The boat on the lake is always frozen in time The winter descends as she can hear motorbikes But every time the engine always dies As the wheels spin her tears turn to ice He’s been gone seven years but still the bike remains Under the frost of ballerina lake Ballerina why do you dance so sad? You’re fulfilling the dream that he never got to see you have Awakes and sleeps only with memories They kiss her every night on her head Like little notes of things he said to remind her He’s alive and well inside her body But what’s a memory without a life? It doesn’t fill her empty side In their room she’ll reminisce behind a widow’s gaze Lying on the bed imagining he’s awake She’s wearing his clothes scented with all their highs As the musical box is playing ballerina chimes The perfect end holds a place very dear by her side The motorbike revs and she can taste the ride Cracks appear as she pirouettes Into the lake’s tears she leapt and never came back Awakes and sleeps only with memories They kiss her every night on her head Like little notes of things he said to remind her He’s alive and well inside her body But what’s a memory without a life? It doesn’t fill her empty side

Bad Apple 04:59
Bad apple, rotten and dried You can taste the demise in the bite No friends, you barely begun The worm and his army’s arrived You wished the branch that grew strong Would’ve helped you along in the queue Instead you’re left on your own Wasted and tasteless are you Stagnate with infested regret No longer a taste to pursue I fell some time ago I wasn’t ready to roll and be bruised My core’s been under attack And the thing that I lacked was a shield No fight and unable to cry Cause my juices had dried in the field Oh well… I land my feet in the dirt So is this the moment for me? To take root and cast a shade in the sun And rise like a big apple tree Oh well maybe it’s meant to be Buried amongst dead leaves Biding my time ‘til the dirt takes hold of me It was hell but now there’s a tale to tell The sun sent a card to get well The bad apple’s broken the spell Bad apple rotten and dried That’s what they used to call me

“The planet you’re on means way more to you than here” That’s what she slurred as her lover just blurs And slips out of frame as her focus gets worse He’s craving a curious taste Out on the prowl pushing hard through the crowd A dilution of his former self As the last of the purity drips from his spout In these dizzy confines of a merry go round Coughs a city draped in bellows of smoke And it’s high time he entered the mind of someone else To see what it’s like So long, my moonlight I won’t write I have to ride and I won’t have time to send you any message Cause the transplant of my mind is wreckage I refuse to exhume Dipping your toes in a city swimming with sharks Careful now not to go in too deep The lullaby drone of a nearby phone Doesn’t penetrate the wall of your drunken drawl Trapped is the change that you fight to digest As you lose sight of what you’ve become Your misery’s complete as the last of your friends Draw away an indifferent hand And forgets who you are So long false moonlight I won’t lie I have to confide in the haven and the comfort of my own mind Cause the one I occupy treats me so unkind every time

Heaven pinned a medal on your chest for bravery In the face of the fight As you bathe another wound from the battle you lose Your faith takes a nosedive There’s so much that we don’t talk about If only I could hear those words that avoid your mouth I could speak up for you Now I watch as you tread away Your head’s afloat for another day Do you ever feel you’re running blind? Heading into nowhere and sailing without wind As the doubts remain Cause you’re sick and tired of worrying about tomorrow When today’s not even started and it’s a blink of a day you glimpse If you were given the key Would you leave me a note at first light? As you go head first into paradise Stringing up your shoes with the bad luck blues Your feet don’t know which way to turn Untouched by wind or sun you’re exposing A core that’s starting to burn There’s so much that I never see If only I could borrow your eyes and take a peek I could keep watch for you Now I watch as you grip the reins And take control of a blinded horse led astray Do you ever feel your heart’s been denied Of happy ever endings amidst a fading light? I think it’s time for change Cause I want you to wake not worrying about tomorrow I know I want to be just like you except without the losing streak So when you’re given the key Will you leave me a note at first light? As you go head first into paradise

Walking home in the rain These sullen city lights ingrained In my rooted heart that always jump-starts It’s barely beating She pierced like the rising sun As my dead end feelings became overrun Like a wild flame’s undying blaze Arousing my brain I remembered This could be the night That shines a flashlight into my grave She works her way inside As the search for life ups the game As the explosion of emotion Blows the notion that I’m dead inside I retaliate against the life That hid the key and locked me up inside Pining eyes greet the daylight scared I dreamt of nothing as my hunger for you wept Don’t starve the morning of last night’s memory Cause the greed overwhelms for her Can I be your endless thought somehow? Cause I’ve traded all of mine for yours now This is our beginning from an ending paralysed That’s growing under sullen city lights You have me solely I’ll suffocate this city Just so we can breathe in all the life In the explosion of emotion I’m the drug To take away your pain But I never want to be the overdose That becomes way too much to take As we’re walking home in the rain I’ll love you until the end and beyond…

Last night I woke Nothing familiar only feelings that I was alone In a room in the dark What if the dreamer dies? Tomorrow’s sky will abandon every piercing light And hang like smoke in a closed room The tube light in the street flickers away I pocket every flash and place it somewhere safe As I drown in my sleep The hotel room echoes of the lonely As I wane under stiff cold sheets The party thrives from the copious amounts of binging eyes Unlike mine that are trying to find you It’s 4am and the dirty room’s stained The door closes as the creek of the hinge Spills me out of my bed ache So I go wandering Downstairs smells of damp cigarettes And all that’s dispensed is a thought from the vending machine Telling me I need to bar the obscene from the remainder of my dream The drunks that slur the street trickle away As they pocket one night stands in a dim lit place As I drown in my sleep The hotel room echoes of the lonely As I wane under stiff cold sheets The party dies and the copious amounts of sadness Hide in my eyes until the alarm wakes me…

Long and cold breathe the nights This sacred bin is our TV for the night The flames swallow all that we discard Thrown amongst the burnable Are the stories many tell to warm the eyes And hearts of the starved The new fish on the line reels in And wants to know about the man who Had everything in the palm of his hand But then lost it all Cause the whirlwind of his greed Swept away the only love he had The cold exposed my battle scars The nights unfolded feeding hearts Of strangers who were eager to believe But I can never find a way Of shedding light on the darkest days So I’ll just sit here waiting for you I’ll just sit here hungry for you As the glowing embers shield the frost And the bitterness hits our silhouettes My mouth is the only thing that thaws From the heated angry sorry tales That resonate this hollow empty jail Never finding the door cause Somebody stole the light from me And I couldn’t see There was no end in sight for me To escape this criminal embrace So now I melt in the arms of a fire that’s dying The cold exposed my battle scars The nights unfolded feeding hearts Of strangers who were eager to believe But I can never find a way Of shedding light on the darkest days So I’ll just sit here waiting for you I’ll just sit here hungry for you

Piano Song 06:02
“I’ll take this room” She’s lookin’ to start anew and dispose of her traits Washing her hands of tomorrow cause she knows it’ll be the same I’ll meet a new face One that can show me a trace of a change in me And smother the shadow that I form In a blanket of harmony I’m a stranger here, oh dear What now? She never wanted to be A leaf on the family tree Walking a road that will lead To a place she has already seen So bare so bold She feels the rush of the night With no baggage to tow And no sign of a trail behind As the roots of your tree Are relying as ever to feed off what you seek How long until the roots break? How long before the shame? How long until she surrenders to the boy with no name? I’m a stranger here, oh dear What now? She never wanted to be A leaf on the family tree Taking a road that will lead To a life she had already seen With the curtains drawn She feels the kick of the night With no rogue to hold Your unborn’s kicking the life Out of you as you scream Fearing what the night delivers when you sleep Mother’s got you in your dreams Mother’s got you it’s okay

about

“What The Night Delivers” is the 3rd studio release from Scott Matthews.

This stunning album was produced by Jon Cotton, producer of Scott’s award winning debut, Passing Stranger.

Scott’s amazing sense of melody and gift for penning well-crafted songs is again evident on ten sublime tracks, which also carry with them some of Scott’s finest lyrics to date.

Previously Scott was honoured by the guest appearance of Robert Plant on his album ‘Elsewhere’. “What The Night Delivers” features another guest performance from legendary double bassist Danny Thompson , whom Scott met whilst performing in Joe Boyd’s stage production of “Way To Blue-The Songs Of Nick Drake”. Other outstanding musicians feature on the album, including mainstay drummer Sam Martin and the talents of the brilliant Danny Keane on cello. Scott himself makes his debut on piano performing the breathtaking solo track ‘Piano Song’.
